Performance assessments are multi-step problems that require students to integrate computational skills with mathematical concepts. These also often mirror real-world situations, whether driving in the family car or carpeting a room, where you need to use math to answer practical questions (When will we arrive? How much material will we need?). It is essential for teachers to collaboratively develop common assessments, scoring guides, rubrics and other methods to evaluate whether the work produced by their students shows that they have learned what was expected. At times, the term “authentic assessment” is used to describe performance assessment.
